Zeus and the Pompous Boy
|
In the year 482 BC Zeus came from Mt Olympus to inspect the newly erected Parthenon. There Zeus spotted a boy throwing rocks at the frieze where the statues are and wearing sandals. Zeus confronted the boy and asked him, "Why are you throwing rocks and wearing sandals in a holy place like this. The boy replied, "I am Oatus son of the senior senator in Athens, I do as I please." Zeus not wanted to kill the boy and wanted to teach him a lesson, held back the full fury of his lightening bolt in his left hand, and stuck the boy's foot with his bolt in his right. (The first recorded use of the hot foot prank in history.) Zeus said to the boy, "Never be disrespectful to a god and never turn you back on one either." Fictitious Stoyium
