The Tragedy ~ Tristan et Iseult (Isolde)

Tristan's uncle Marke - who is King wishes to marry the fair Iseult. However, she is in Ireland and Marke sends Tristan
to bring her back to Cornwall. Tristan has been in her life before and not in a good way. He slew her original fiancé,
Morold - for which she has not forgiven him. Neither does she wish to marry King Marke. Iseult finds a wounded man
in a boat and begins to heal him, however, she discerns that this is the man who killed Morold. She makes to slay
him with his own sword, but he looks into her eyes and then she cannot slay him and stays her hand.

Iseult tells her handmaiden, Brangane to request the Captain (Tristan) to come and drink with her to make an
atonement. In reality, she means to poison him and then herself. Brangane catches on to this and somewhere in
there concocts instead a love potion and gives that to her mistress when Tristan finally accepts her summons.

So, they drink the love potion instead and fall deeply in love with one another.

Brangane confesses what she did to King Marke and he proceeds to find the two lovers to give them his blessing,
however it's too late. Tristan has fought with Melot, Marke's henchman and been wounded. He dies in delirium, railing
against his fate as Iseult finally finds him. He dies with her name on his lips. Iseult collapses beside him and says she
has seen Tristan risen again, then dies herself.

One of these great love stories with a sad ending. Crying or Very sad It's a romantic scene and the lovers have a nice pose. Wink I also like Tristan's armor and Iseult's hair.

The "Prose Tristan" became the common medieval tale of Tristan and Iseult that would provide the background for the writings of Sir Thomas Malory, the English author, who wrote Le Morte d'Arthur (c. 1469). Tristan was 'absorbed' into the Arthurian characters and their story may have been the inspiration for Lancelot and Guineverre.
