Post by: Jherrith on June 24, 2011, 02:33:38 PM
Well, as some of you might have guessed I am working diligently towards a complete collection in DVD of the old and new Dr. who episodes.

The Gunfighters w/ William Hartnell
The Awakening w/ Peter Davison

In August they have on tap:

Paradise Towers w/ Sylvester McCoy

When is the new season of Dr. Who supposed to start? I gave up watch BBC America after Xmas...  Nothing on there that I haven't seen before... Kinda gotten tired of watching the same things over and over again...  :eyescan:  :it:  :cheer:

Good question I had to give up the package that carried BBC America due to the cost. My introductory period is over and the price doubled, the only thing I have seen about it so far is that filming of the new seasons starts on 02/20/12

Can't find out when the new series will be shown. (My guess is Easter Saturday) :)
Here's what I have found out..................

The new series will see Matt Smith return as the Doctor in what Steven Moffat has described as 'the biggest, the best and the most ambitious season we've ever made'. Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) are both back, for what will be their final voyage with the Doctor - a thrilling rollercoaster ride which will culminate in a heart-breaking farewell to the Ponds. But there will be more shocks, surprises and adventures to come when the Doctor meets a new friend, in the last very place he could ever have expected...

I used to watch Dr who curled up on the sofa every Sunday morning with my dad. its something I try and carry on with my two, I've even got Luis watching it.   I can't wait for series 7 to start.

If I am not mistaken season 7 has, don't know since I no longer can afford cable TV ... $70 a month just to get the one channel I watch ... not bloody likely. Yes, I don't watch much TV.

 Anyway

Just released in July

The Krotons w/Patrick Troughton

Death to the Daleks w/ Jon Pertwee

Coming in August

The Greatest Show in the Galaxy w/Sylvester McCoy

Coming in September

The Planet of Giants w/William Hartnell

Jelly babies didn't see that in season six unless I missed it somehow, which episode would that reference have been in?

Not I !!!  Never would I make such a statement as that about a fellow Who-vian

Well maybe something was in my eye at the very end ...

Something about looking for a big and complicated word that is so sad.

Got the disc in now. Sorry had to watch The Krotons that I just bought with Patrick Troughton

Anyway on the disc that contains The Doctors Wife they have extras on it and boy howdy are they quite good .... Night and The Doctor ... apparently he does things while Amy and Rory sleep. :thud:

There are four little clips and they so add some depth to the relationship between The Doctor and River Song ... "the mind boggles"

Agreed on River and look forward to whatever they are going to cook up for the Daleks.

Man have they ever come a long way since their first episode ... and they still keep coming back ... methinks the Doctor puts to much back spin on them when he boots them out of the universe.

Well, 5 episodes into series 7 and the Ponds are no longer with us (good storyline, didn't see that coming! and I'm really going to miss Amy too.)
But now we have a break until the Christmas special, Luckily until then we have a new series of Merlin to keep us entertained on a Saturday night (not sure when you guys in the US will get it though)

Oh darn it all teasing us again darn darn darn

In the meantime though ...
The Ambassadors of Death w/Jon Pertwee is now available for purchase in the stores.

Part one of Season 7 will not be available on DVD till November 13.
I am going to have to buy it in two parts since there is no way I can wait to buy the whole thing in one box set. Way to long to wait for me

S4A, We also get Merlin across the pond on BBC America... But I've seen the entire series on ScyFy channel. Saw it clearly to the end of the series. You'll never guess the ending tho... It's an open ended. Don't know if it will be back this year on ScyFy to tie up the end neatly. :tearlaugh:

Why?

I bought the Christmas special and part one of season 7 previously. Have seen the Christmas special on the computer mind you, not the same as on a 32" flat screen with 5.1 surround sound, :thud:

Here is something hot off the presses or is that web site.

Jan 2013 on DVD

Shada w/Tom Baker

The lost episode this has been previously on VHS, and just recently there has been a novelization of the script that when i read it and then watched the VHS copy I have it filled in so many blanks.

Feb 2013

The Reign of Terror w/William Hartnell

Eighth episode in the series and I thought lost, as my reconstruction that I have is not all original film as there are some stills with text or audio filling it out so this should prove to be interesting indeed.

No longer having cable TV of any sort I have not yet seen the new Christmas special, and so far it has not yet been released on DVD either so still being the good little patient time tot. :tearlaugh:

What is coming up next is something I am looking forward to especially if it is complete is "The Reign of Terror" w/Hartnell.

My copy, has two of the episodes as reconstructions, yet the advert for it in B/N does not indicate anything like that, it states "remastered" ... so looking forward to Feb. 12th

Update they doing an animation of the missing two episodes most likely just like was done in Patrick Troughton's "Invasion" where the missing two episode were recreated in as an animation.

Must be patient till the 12th ... must be patient ... must ... :ahhhh:

The third Dr. gave himself a name "Dr. John Smith"  Saw the classic episode from the third doctor who series. The 3rd doctor was more of an hands-on fighter modeled after I believe either James Bond or John Steed from The Avengers. Anyway, just putting the info out there.
Title: Re: New releases
Post by: Jherrith on April 01, 2013, 05:35:48 PM
Jamie referred to him (Patrick Troughton ) as Dr. John Smith in "The Wheel in Space"  while the Doctor was in the sick bay, and then in "The War Games" he called himself that when being interrogated by one of the brainwashed generals.

Jon Pertwee used the name in the "Spearhead from Space" episode when the Brigadier said that he didn't know what to call him.

Incidentally it was also Patrick Troughton who first used the sonic screwdriver in "The War Games".

Well, the actual and the advertised for the second part of season seven is miles apart.

In other words the spiel on the web page says the Christmas special was included on part two of season seven ... well if you guessed it was not then you know what to do.

So had to buy them separately .... :cry3:

However I have at last watched the Christmas special .... twice ... and oh the hidden references ... Exquisite

Next is to watch part two ... but not quite yet :heeheehee:

Well, picked up the latest release, The Mind of Evil w/Jon Pertwee

updated my list and I am now down to only one show they have not released.

So out of the full 261 shows or episodes that have been shown since its first broadcast in 1963, I lack 24 that have been lost or destroyed, I do have those as reconstructions from Loose Cannon.

Tickled I am so very much.

The first one The Bells of Saint John .... oh my giddy aunt .... talk about layers and layers

Title: Re: New releases
Post by: Katt on July 28, 2013, 08:53:20 PM
The Bell's of Saint John is not bad .... but I found the season started off shakey ... it seemed to take a few episodes to get the "real" feel of Doctor Who ..... the last few prior to the end of the season got much better ....

They are to be announcing the next Doc in August or so .... and I would assume the Christmas special (which has Billie Piper and David Tennant in it btw) will have Matt regenerating into the next Doc .... but that's still a bit off ... hate waiting!

On your side of the pond... BBC America guide for tomorrow doesn't say anything of that except a line up of Dr Who summaries from the 1st to the 6th Dr Who. But I will keep my eyes out for that special. I've even set up the reminders for each of them so I can catch them even if I do forget them. (I suffer from CRC aka CRS syndrome at times :thud: ) Thanks for the heads up, tho. :hug3:

"This weekend, the BBC will reportedly announce the actor who will play the twelfth incarnation of The Doctor in "Doctor Who".

The special program will reportedly screen on Sunday at 7pm BST on BBC1 and will be called "Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor". It's expected BBC America will simulcast the program.

Zoe Ball will present the special in front of a live audience, a special that will feature past Doctors and companions including Matt Smith."

Looks like BBC America will screen at the same time.

Well, we just got around to watching the second disk of season seven and I have one thing to say ... watch it again ... yes ... there is that many hooks and references ... you might not be able to get them all.

I was hard pressed ... :tearlaugh:

Sorry .. but I do not have high hopes for the last final Doctor ... when I watch all I will be seeing is him in Pompei ....

He has some tall orders to fill ... but not hopeful here ...

Guess there is something to be said for not watching a whole lot of TV as I have no idea who he is or the show that you are referring to, so just going to wait and see.

I am referring to Doctor Who episode ... Fires of Pompei (or something) ... with David Tennant and Donna Noble .... this "new" doc was the father of the family they saved ... and Karen Gillian was one of the maidens who had eyes painted on their hands btw ...

So .. knowing that, I will be hard-pressed to see him as the Doc vs the father of the family ...

Yes, but that was like years ago... Since then maybe he will have enough acting chops to put to use when they develop the scripts around him just like they did with Karen... Maybe that will be forgotten also like with Karen. :tearlaugh: I am less likely to dismiss him as a Dr Who... since I've picked up after Tom Barker.  Thought I wouldn't like any of the Dr's after Tom but I was wrong. I do like Chris, David and Matt. So, let's see, hmmm???  :icu:

Ah so that is what thou meant well, guess I will have to watch that episode again and see what I shall see.

But, like Hawk mentions having had my first encounter with the Doctor being Tom Baker and not really knowing that I would like any of the others does give me a little bit of tolerance to see what shall occur next

Just saw the next one to be released

The Tenth Planet w/William Hartnell on 11/19/13

This is the episode for those who are not aware, of the first appearance of the Cyberman and is also when the Doctor regenerated for the first time.

Incidentally it was also Patrick Troughton who first used the sonic screwdriver in "The War Games".

Was watching the old reconstructions of the missing Dr. Who shows and found out that I was mistaken on the sonic screwdrivers first appearance.

Twas actually in the episode "Fury from the Deep"

Just picked up The Tenth Planet w/William Hartnell and the animation of the missing episode is very well done, including the regeneration sequence.

Teaser ... they have in the extras "upcoming" and when I watched it seems like the next one on the drafting board will be "The Moonbase w/Patrick Troughton" to be reconstructed with animation.

No release date mentioned ... :cry2:

Well, at last the 50th anniversary has hit the stores and would you believe that in the two counties that I would travel there was only one store that had it on the shelves and when I got there there was only one on the shelf.

Man what the heck is that about I wonder ... nonetheless :yippee:

I am now able to watch it again and this time without picking up hundreds of PUPs and other crap from the places that said they had a streaming version and so forth or wanted to install new video drivers but still never allowed the show to play.

Got me own personal copy now   :feelgood:

Still love that line

Christmas special was so so.... nowhere near as amazing as the anniversary show.

The Christmas special was a big let-down... But it did leave us with that cliff-hanger and a teaser peak into the next Dr's personality.  At the beginning, it was  confusing... Each time we see Dr (Matt Smith) he's aged.  Sort of confusing in the middle... Then at the end, Amelia Pond shows up as both a child and adult. Last parting words, "Raggedly Man, Good night". Then the transformation took place. It wasn't as violent as the others were, more like "blink and you'll miss it"... I laughed at the end when the new Dr ask Clara, "One question... Do you know how to fly this thing?"

Well, we got an update on the new release dates.

The Moonbase w/Patrick Troughton ~ Feb. 11 2014

The Time of the Doctor w/Peter Capaldi ~ March 4 2014

The Web of Fear w/Patrick Troughton ~ April 22 2014

Doing the :yippee: :letusboogie: shuffle

Which puts me at -21 shows, (out of 263) after the above are acquired left to complete the set.

Granted I have the missing 21 as reconstructions, using telesnaps, but it will be so much nicer to have them with the missing episodes reconstructed as animations.

Picked up The Time of the Doctor

Well now definitely not the best constructed or thought out episode. Then again introducing the newest in the last five minutes or such definitely did not help his debut

Guess we are going to have to wait for the season to progress and make it to DVD before I can make a judgement call on this one.

Just picked up the "Web of Fear with Patrick Troughton" and am disappointed that they did not do a full animation of the missing episode(s) as they have done in previous reconstructions.

They did photo stills with the soundtrack, quite the let down in my mind since the animations have been done so well previously.

There was only one episode missing and they have already done reconstructions with full animation that were missing two episodes so what the ... :ummm:

:woohoo: Just picked up The Enemy of the World. :woohoo:

And it is a complete show, no missing episodes, no reconstructions, no tele-snaps

A far cry from the copy I have from Loose Cannon, which is mostly tele-snaps and some episodes that had made it back at the time.

So this is a real gem to say the least, going to review the Loose Cannon one next to see how they compare.

Title: Re: New releases
Post by: Jherrith on December 14, 2014, 08:11:56 AM
He does grow on a person, having seen two full episodes last night, "Deep Breath" and "Into the Dalek" which I thought was quite different and brought new life to them as a villain, we are beginning to like his interpretation.

Kind of have a problem with him going from 1200 years old as Matt Smith stated in The Day of the Doctor, to now 2000 years old as stated in Deep Breath but what does one expect form a Time Lord right ....

Time to put on Robot of Sherwood and continue on

Will say this "Missy" character is a bit of a mystery right now, look forward to the development of her character's purpose.

I so wish they would get back to releasing the earlier ones once more.
