Worked on some of the other practice pieces and the times for rendering have continued to be low until I crank up the ray trace bounces and IDL settings.

I did one on the XP box using my Cookie and the Mech picture, changed the lights to IBL, set the textures to crisp and said run took 1 hour and 15 minutes

Did the same scene on Stormbringer 15 minutes. :thud:

Seriously ...

Did a visual comparison twixt the two and let me tell you there is even a difference in the sharpness and crispness of the colors and textures.

Granted that might just be the difference between the two monitors with one being full HD and the other not so very much

That's a major difference I think!  I have to get my feet up for a while. Swelling gets bad after a few hours up time.  I got the new items installed and sorted, ready to load and go.   I can't even guess what Stormbringer is capable of!

It will be a good thing once I get the ability to upgrade to the 64 bit version of Poser I can't wait to see what will happen on that day.

Till then we are still quite pleased by marked improvement in the displayed attributes

That's right!  Just keep in mind, your 32bits is rendering  faster than my 64bits.  Your older slower program is still powering right by my newer faster program.  :o)

Provided I don't set the render specs to high :tearlaugh:

Speaking o which!   I been cracking open Da BOOK!  a bit.  Wrong end of the day maybe, but it was still good gleaning in ye olde Reference Manual.    From what you were saying, you DID likely swamp your render times down by upping some settings to do with Indirect Light.   Plus, using it with a Universal light rather than a Spotlight could maybe add DAYS to the render times.  Yeah, that serious!  You should have a look at that short chapter in the Ref Man!

What  read the user manual ... heaven forbid ... I just started Libriomancer by Jim Hines ... does that count?

Even though we are also reading Mariners of Gor by John Norman, Spellstorm by Ed Greenwood and Tsubasa World Chronicle: Niraikanai by Clamp at the same time

ROH ROH ROH ROH!   GOR I grok, started reading some of that from time to time since I was a teenager.  You are 3 years younger than me, so I KNOW what levels of "stuff" you have been exposed to.   I guess you never much cared for Farmer or Dick?  What about Jack Vance?  He has written some very interesting themes.   Gor.  goodness man, I thought I'd read raunchy sci-fi quite a bit from 10 thru 20's but Gor is a world where everything goes.  Slave.  That is a word absolutely defined in the Gor continuum man.  Whatever energy plate you gotta step on to get there, I will stay WAY away from.  IF I awaken there, no choice but deal with it or die.  If I don't, hey RUN!  :)

I bought The Tarnsman of Gor when it was first out in like 1970, standing in line at the supermarket checkout I shuffled to be last up in the family line, picked up a copy from the endcap rack of mags and paperbacks and something else, maybe pack of gum.  Paid for it with my own cash.  I was like 16.  I bought it to assert My Self to my dad.  He acted like he didn't care.  I didn't know he already had it, and some other 'socially heavy' sci-fi books.  Turned out to be a decent enough read, but I didn't like the way the author pounded down women.  Like I don't like the way Marion Zimmer Bradley pounds down men.  Zimmer asserts women can be loose but men can ONLY give themselves to one woman per lifetime.  With a smile.  Norman asserts women have their uses.  And that's all they are worth.  then he shrugs.  Neither are my favorite people.  I've read several volumes from both through the decades, and neither have changed their viewpoint.  OK.  They are still not my favorite people.  :o)
Have you read Orson Scott Card?  Enders Game?  There are at least 5 books to make that a series.  Happily, the movie covered only the first book.   Card leaves out ALL the raunchy stuff, and writes around a single drop of "You Can't Stop THIS!" stuff.   Similar to the planet killer asteroid scenario.  Ender runs into several situations of that magnitude through the next 4 volumes.  I won't describe what they are.  That would make reading unnecessary!
"Good Reads".  Often a writer has the form and style that, by itself, is interesting enough to "read".  When such a writer tackles a topic that is real interesting to a reader, and does that in a very engaging way;  THAT is Great Reading.  Such a very rare combination too.   At a given moment in time, any writers work could be both, say to me but not to YOU.  Then tomorrow, the very same could be both to YOU but not me.  That sir is what I call the Fickleness of the Human Self in the Cosmos!     :yippee: :winks:
