Any bruising should be reported to your Doctor if you didn't know how it got there.

Just a word about Gimp
« on: November 13, 2015, 08:09:52 PM »

A lot of people know about Gimp.  I might be wrong but going through the posting here I did not see one on where to get Gimp.   For those who don’t know about Gimp, it is a free photo editor that uses layers.  The use of layers in a photo editing program can greatly improve your renders in post work.

You can get at http://www.gimp.org/  It is a multi language program so most anyone can use this program.

Here is a quick overview taken from their website.

·       Painting
o   Full suite of painting tools including Brush, Pencil, Airbrush, Clone, etc.
o   Sub-pixel sampling for all paint tools for high quality anti-aliasing
o   Extremely powerful gradient editor and blend tool
o   Supports custom brushes and patterns

·        System
o   Tile based memory management so image size is limited only by available disk space
o   Virtually unlimited number of images open at one time
·       Advanced Manipulation
o   Full alpha channel support
o   Layers and channels
o   Multiple Undo/Redo (limited only by diskspace)
o   Editable text layers
o   Transformation tools including rotate, scale, shear and flip
o   Selection tools including rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, free, fuzzy
o   Foreground extraction tool
o   Advanced path tool doing bezier and polygonal selections.
o   Transformable paths, transformable selections.
o   Quickmask to paint a selection.

·        Extensible
o   A Procedural Database for calling internal GIMP functions from external programs as in Script-fu
o   Advanced scripting capabilities (Scheme, Python, Perl)
o   Plug-ins which allow for the easy addition of new file formats and new effect filters
o   Over 100 plug-ins already available

·        Animation
o   Load and save animations in a convenient frame-as-layer format
o   MNG support
o   Frame Navigator (in GAP, the GIMP Animation Package)
o   Onion Skin (in GAP, the GIMP Animation Package)
o   Bluebox (in GAP, the GIMP Animation Package)
·       File Handling
o   File formats supported include bmp, gif, jpeg, mng, pcx, pdf, png, ps, psd, svg, tiff, tga, xpm, and many others
o   Load, display, convert, save to many file formats
o   SVG path import/export

·       Much, much more!

Note:  If you are going to up load this program make sure you load it from the gimp.org website or CNET website, there are some websites out there that offer gimp and put Trojans in your computer for tracking, and other unwanted programs on your computer.

It is a wonderful tool. Haven't been doing that for some time but I remember that I used it for my RPG maps to click on the room and to send me on its description. It can be done in GIMP in HTML. I think I should refresh my knowledge about it.

It is a very good program, I just wanted to put the word out for people who wanted a good photo editor without spending an arm and a leg to get one, Gimp is one they don't need to spend money on.  I have used it too and like it.
