Terragen (http://planetside.co.uk/) is a program going on systems Windows and Mac. It allows to generate terrains. But also now to add stones, vegetation...
This year (around september), it is coming to version 4.

Previsualisation is in OpenGL; the definitive render is to do in raytracing.

A good example is the Paramount logo.

Very nice program, I liked it for some time as Mojoworld too.
