Any bruising should be reported to your Doctor if you didn't know how it got there.

A book in Wings 3d
« on: November 17, 2016, 03:47:55 PM »
I started with different possibilities found on the web, mainly in french. Here how i made.
I restart step by step to show you.

First things to know:
- to select something, one click on left button of the mouse. To deselect a part, another click on the left button.
- to turn in all directions, keep ALT and left mouse cliked, and use the mouse to move.
- to be back in the first view, click simply on the letter R.
- when you have something to selected, to deselect click on the space touch.
- z axis is in blue & white [blue for the front, white for the back)
- x axis is in white & red [white for the left, red for the right]

Here we go!

On the scene, right click with the mouse, and choose Cylinder.

You have 4 square in the top of program. Choose the more at your left.
Now you are ready to click on points. Just 4 are interesting for us: these in the z axis.
Select the 2 on the top surface, then the 2 in the bottom. We have something like this below.

Now, click on the right button of mouse (or click on C) and you cute in 2 equal parts the cylinder.

You need to remove an half. To do that, we have to select faces; it's the third square in the top of Wings which will help for this.
When you click on, more than necessary is selected. It's time to click on Space button.
Then choose to select the half part to remove.

After, make a right click => Dissolve.

Click on Space button, because now we need to select all external parts making an half circle. They are future cover.

Right click => Shell extrude => Normal
The thickness of cover depends of you.

Space button to deselect.

The cover can't be good, because of 2 external edges. So choose the second square at the top of Wings 3D; then select like the first capture below.

Click on Y, and make a zoom on the top. By here, we don't see the red edges, but they are selected.
Right click => Move => X
It's not a big move, just what is necessary to be on the ligne of Z axis.
One it's done, left click to end the move.

And Space button, because we have a new step!

Now, select all the cylinder. It's possible at first click just a part is selected. It's because Wings starts to do the difference between "cover" and "pages" (thanks to Shel Extrude in a previous step), even if it doesn't know what we are doing :winks:
But we really need to have all selected.
Then Right click => Scale axis => Y
This allows to the book to be symmetric around the equilibrium point in Wings.

Space button!

Next step will help to create pages.
Selected the ancient "middle of circle". It's now divided in 3 faces.
Make Right click => Extrude => x

Deslect only the middle face. And make again
Right click => Extrude => x
but not too much. It's how the cover is compared to the pages.

Space button.
Now it's the top of book I show you; but you can start with the bottom. No matter what is this you choose, because we have to do the both.
You select only the future cover faces.

Right click => Extrude => y

Not too much again. Take a look on what you made previously in X axis. I don't know how do differently for the moment.

Tada! Your book is ended!

For the moment, i haven't the skill to use the UVmap in Wings 3D. So i use UVmapper.
For a book, normally the map is easy to do.

Importation in Daz (DS3) ask to put the book in 400% for me. But all depends of the size that you made for.

EDIT 01/2022: I had to redo the screen captures, like the different moves of forum :explode: the attached images in all sections.
For that reason, my example is a very large book, but not really tall.

But my true example was when doing the Secret Tall Book
