Any bruising should be reported to your Doctor if you didn't know how it got there.

Well, it does sound like your making progress.  Which is a good thing.

I have auto update set up on most of my programs and because I use Adobe Version Cue always running...that is normally up to date at all times.

But updates are important in two ways.

One is, your program normally runs better and it is compatible with changes made by other programs and devices you use.

And most viruses can only be "Killed" if you are using the up to date version of the program because the virus updates you get are based on UP TO DATE programs.....  If a virus attacks a older version of the program...your virus scan program has a hard time determining if it's part of the program or a actual virus...thus the "Quarauntine" instead of the "Kill" virus message.

Well it is up to date now and a new scan is running not really sure why but it is so am letting it probably some button I didn't uncheck, scan while idle or some such nonsense. I did set up a weekly scheduled run to initiate on Sunday morning. What is odd as it has paused twice, anyway it is working a wee bit better will have to work on the concept of the "bad block" nonsense afterward to finish the repairs.

Well Zangetsu finally finished scanning all drives, yes all of them, no damn wonder it took almost 12 hours to complete :thud: Found two cookies that it didn't like and deleted them so not bad. Found out what it is calling a password protected file is indeed nothing more then a zip file. so no problem there.

That is a good sign that's it's starting again.  That means it found something and cleaned it and had to go back and clean up other traces of it.  Virus scans have a tough time catching "trace" items because they have to determine the main culprit first.  That is why so many of those E-Mail viruses are so successfull.  The virus doesn't settle in one place....it runs rampert and attaches bits and pieces here and there.

So far sounds like all is coming out great.

And yes...I can relate to the 12 hour scan....that you always made fun of

Zangetsu is at 12 hours

Blackie is much less I don't remember as it is running another right now.

Hmm wouldn't it show that it hit something when it pauses, as I see no activity indicating that it is cleaning anything. As mentioned I have a bad block so I wonder if that is affecting it.

Could very well be.  When was the last time you did a good defraging?

Zangetsu has not had one since it was rebuilt then again it did scan over 3 million files which happens to be slightly more then the 700,000 on Blackie. Blackie is the one in need of a defrag but will not do so because of the bad block

Oh great tried to make the disk to run the Maxtor tool to fix the system and neither the CD or floppy works, apparently both of them crapped out? Is that even possible?

Not usually. Sounds like something turned them off.  Right click on them and hit your properties button and if that doesn't work go into your control panel and hit the add/delete device box to see if they are showing if they run properly......

Well, it shows that it is working properly which is a big load of foul fetid taurine fecal matter. Time to dig deeper

:thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud:

Opened the case and went poking about and what do I see but an unplugged floppy drive cable.

Still no response from the CD it is totally uncooperative and it is plugged in and the device manager says it is working properly, yeah right, sure

At least I was able to make a floppy disk now to change the boot order and see if we can convince it to repair itself.  :pweez:
