Post by: Aelin on February 06, 2016, 08:23:29 AM
If you look recently your new download, you see that now you a button "daz connect offline".
To resume, you have your librarie on the cloud now :thud:

I wonder if is not the external possibilities which push them to try this system; they hope perhaps that we will be disappointed to lost time to put on externals, because we don't know really where are files.
Theorically i have all the new pack in my "documents"; i will move it in a moment in my DS4 folder, and either it work, either not.
But before i disminish size of png  :OMFG:

Edit: it seems they have a FAQ

I was thinking the same, I spent all afternoon yesterday and it seems it is not made for externals, but I really want to have backups for offline use as I do now.

Now I was thinking maybe it is made just for people with very high connection speed that can easily download and install files. But still I would like to be able to have files and be able to have control of them. Oh well whatever happens I hope I will be able to work and enjoy it like i do now.

I just tried to work with "make a wish" myself, and... nothing. It's encrypted, i see nothing. And i'm always with computer, i haven't put on externals.

In these conditions i will continue to take in the product libraries, but i will stop download packs if they keep this way.

And in my searches, i find your topic too!

Alas, i'm afraid they close your topic; i see several (even one of 41 pages) closed by the site. I pass few on their forums, and by consequency i hadn't see the first topic the January 21 :thud:

Thanks for the link, I will have to read trough this but it seems they don't like people keeping and collecting files on their computers :) and now they also have encryption it seems though I am not sure how it works yet  http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/941094/#Comment_941094

Oh i love this

What are the goals of Daz Connect?
[...]
To consume less disk space, making it easier to install them when you actually need them, as well as no longer store zip files for products on your local computer.
This the 485Mo in png for the "make a wish", where is the "less disk space"? :thud:

Any case, i have no doubt that sooner we heard talk of pirates stolen products. When they want something, it's difficult to fight.

But take care because i think i read somewhere (probably in this topic) if you download for example G3F by this new system your "old" G3F will be removed.  :eyescan:

And alas i see this now
Quote
Are all products Daz Connect ready?
New products, as well as a huge selection of older products, will be offered through Daz Connect right away, with more of the older products having Daz Connect support added in the future.  Products that have been offered through non-Daz Connect methods will continue to be available through those methods as well as through Daz Connect.
New products may begin to be offered through Daz Connect only. This will be determined on a product by product basis.
So definitively the 3D community will be in 2 teams.

And the best

Can I use products installed through Daz Connect with other software?
Products installed through Daz Install Manager keep their previous functionality.  Products updated to Daz Connect will not function with Carrara or the DSON Importer for Poser due to an inability to interface with Daz Connect web services, but all bridges (e.g. ZBrush, Bryce, Hexagon) and exporters continue to function as they have.
I know artists working in Carrara with DS stuff. Poor guys!

J, DAZ does not make improvements -- they make changes. There is a difference you know.

Too right

You're kidding, J!
Rather a new source of problems, methink.
That's why I don't plan to use this application, although I'm a DAZ user.

You are most assuredly correct

We be not a DAZ user and will never but I am pleased to see that even DAZ users are resistant to their control of how content is installed

Thank You so much for this FAQ link Aelin, I have actualy made it work on my external HD thanks to this http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/990392/#Comment_990392

Also there are offline files that You can keep like usual archives on external HD and install while working offline, which is a very good thing to have. For one it looks good being able to know what products You actualy have with pictures in DS, about rest I am still not sure but it seems I will be able to work with it in DS at least :).

:eyescan: All this seems really complicated. And for the moment the pack refuses to work with me.
I download it when i was online. But always the product librarie of the site said "offline". The result is i can't use the pack.
So i will remove it, and wait for a change of mentality of their part, several years if necessary. Because now using Daz is really more difficult than using Poser!

I'm happy to have kept my old DS3 in any case.

When DAZ created DIM, I downloaded it, installed it and launched it. It never worked on my PC.
So, I got rid of it and kept on downloading and installing my DAZ content manually.
Sometimes, the files structures in the ZIP files don't fit to me. No problem with that, I change them in my DAZ directory. It might take time but I never had issues and my DAZ content always worked fine, without needing to use DIM.
And this time, I don't want even try to use that DAZ Connect, which moreover seems not to work really fine. I'm gonna keep on downloading and installing manually my DAZ content.
And if one day, DAZ decides that DAZ Connect is the only way to install their content, I won't be any longer one of their customers. That's it!

Yes i do the same thing, including for Geometries and Textures. It take a little time, but at least i have a good runtime, and i avoid too much folders in the roots of Geometries now.
In DS4, not possible until now for me. Except with Notepad ++ if i remember that Childe of Fyre said me once on Deviantart.

And for new packs, it will be their new system now.

Oh well before 2 years I was thinking that 3d art is just too complicated and storing lots of files. I am just glad I didn't gave up on it due to advice of a wiser friend.

It works for me, yeah it is a bit harder to get into it but it has product sorting and some additional info. I agree that they should leave manual installation option, it is much easier to handle files and keep them.
