95% of what I create is just like that ... I start with a character and perhaps an outfit I have not used yet and then put it on simmer and see what it tastes like when done ... or add more seasoning ... take your pick.

It has never taken me more than 20 minutes tops for the render of a full scene. One of the biggest issues I have with today's content creators is the mesh weights; they are way too heavy. Not to mention the lack of use when it comes to normal maps in place of dis/bump maps.

You simply DO NOT need to use dis/bump maps on anything other than the center of your focus. If all else fails I can simply save the entire scene in obj format and load it into Maya. Most of the people making content these days are doing so in ZBrush and Sculptris. My advice to them would be to learn to utilize all of the tools in them to optimize your mesh and you'll be doing great.

I am obviously doing several things wrong, would so like to hear more details in one of our tutorial threads if you would not mind.

Starting with just an overview, I am sure I can zero in on specifics to improve things on my end.

Give me some time on that one, I'll have to edit my words a few times to conclude with a short one page version. I tend to talk too much when it comes to all the things I've learn over the years. For every 1 hr I've spent creating things, I've tripled that in research.

I rarely start with a conception of a finished image. Usually its just a terrain that I mat and let the muse flow. Some images have gotten just so far and then died for lack of an idea or just the right model to "make" the image. In those cases the half finished image may languish on a harddrive for a couple of years or more until I revisit it. As to rendering, I have had a couple of images that went almost 60 hours to render. That was using older hardware though and the latest processors usually finish those images in under 24 hours. Glass is the worst material to render, followed by water and bloody pumpkin juice..........................

Depends on if I am rendering part of a story it can take weeks to set up vs humpday pinups which can take hours depending on lighting and special Effects in the image.

As for heavy Mesh items I think they never really thought about the poor mans computer. If you take any of the 3d modeling class you get beat into you less is more. Start Simple only add extra if you need it make a clean mesh.

Figured out the reason for the length of the render I forgot to mention that there was glass in the wall behind the character :thud:

No wonder it took so long

Some hair textures are also render hogs; especially if they used BPJ hair tonic!
