Giveaway of the Day

The Sitting Room Awaits You

This room is located in the ENTRANCE area of our Forums and the setting is made for sharing Gossip, tidbits of information, problems, solutions, but most of all, relaxation.

Roaming the Attic Halls can be tiresome at times because we are always dodging the Dust Bunnies or running away from Kianna (At least ONE of our admins is).

In here you can kick up your feet, sip some coffee or your favorite beverage that you picked up at the Coffee Shoppe, or take a nap in restful glee....even try out the various vibrating furniture!

Just make sure you use coasters and please don't leave any rings on the tables.

I have trouble finding anything new in Daz Studio. As usual in trying to improve it they just made it worse and I suspect they have some code in there that will delete any earlier versions from your computer without asking. I had vers 3 installed and it is gone now.

As to my most used program Bryce, well that is nothing short of bizarre. I installed vers7. such and such. After a couple of weeks of loading my favourite mats and models I tried to use the mesh editor and it didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled Bryce. Only thing is the mat libraries and the model libraries didn't uninstall. Now when I initialize the program  I get the new libraries and if I initialize it a second time I get the old libraries. And the hell of it is the mesh editor still doesn't work.

As for win 8 my best advice is run like hell unless you are going to use it for a tablet. They tried to blend a desktop OS with a tablet OS and the result is a disaster. The exec in charge suddenly resigned. They have released a patch but only for tablets. As soon as I have a few extra bucks I will remove this HD and install a new one with Win 7 or XP 64.

Oh joy oh joy, on Win 8, I shall make certain I go no where near there ...

As for DAZ  never going there I tried once when it first came out and nothing but trouble, so sticking with Poser only

Glad to see everything is working good.   I checked last night also and all seemed fine but didn't get back in here to tell you LOL.   I did a "J"....Fell asleep on the keyboard..... :java:

As for Win 7 & 8.....Unless your puter is going to last forever "J".....Your going to end up with Win 7 or 8 sooner or later.  XP is officially done as of Jan 1st 2014 and no further updates will be avail.

That's the latest from MS.  But then again...they said that last year also and continued to support XP since Dell was selling a XP version.  But looking in the Dell site...I no longer see the XP version.  So this may be the year.

What that means is you'll get security updates occasionally...but no updates for anything else.  Oh well, such is life...

That's OK on no updates for xp. In the future I will have a dedicated graphics machine that is not online! All files loaded into the machine will be checked on an internet capable machine with virus software first. I will then put them on disk to transfer.

On the plus side I got my 32 inch monitor back from the shop today all fixed with a new power supply. Now I can see what cobrahair has been writing!  Big improvement over my 14 inch standby monitor!

Methinks that is what shall eventually happen on this side as well, one for rendering only no internet, and the other for everything else

Trying a smaller font this time around LOL. Unfortunately the computer despite its wonderful ability to allow us to do things we normally could not has turned into an open front door into our homes and lives. Not only do butterflies come in but scorpions and spiders as well. All you can do is close the door. Simple and effective.

I have three computers using XP and two running Linux...I have all of the updates on disc for the XP units and see no need in changing OS's anytime soon. Win 7-8 are geared more toward social media which I have no use for.

I look at it this way....Why fix what isn't broken?

Good point.

Aha so that is the deal with Win 7-8, social media ... :thud: can live without it. I do have one of the things but do I rush home to see what has happened while I was at work ... hell no.

I have a computer and I use it to keep up with you all here and do art, it is not for social media, streaming vids, music

Oh and unlike the mindless sheep of the world I damn sure do not use my phone to follow that nonsense or text or any of the other stupidity (my opinion) that I see so many do

Once I found out the govt could track your every whereabouts using your cellphone I cancelled my phone contract, took out the battery and put everything in a drawer. I have it for long trips so in case of an emergency I can insert the battery and call 911 without a contract. If someone needs to call me they can leave a message on the landline TAD at the house. We have caller ID and onscreen ID display on the television so if it is a caller whom I do not wish to allow to leave a message the receiver is lifted and dropped thus disconnecting the annoyance. As to social media that is just another way for everyone to know your business. I don't belong to any of the major ones and have little to do with the google app with the exception of some former co-workers and fellow RC hobbyists in the more civilized Euro countries.

The only difference between a smart phone and a regular cell phone are the apps.  You don't get apps on a regular cell phone but they can still trace you.  If you do nothing wrong...there is no worry about it.  And in a way, if something happened to you and you couldn't contact anyone...they can find you.

There are pluses and minuses in everything.  It depends on how paranoid you are and how you set up your devices.  I have a total of 4 added apps on my smart phone.  Skype, to keep in contact with the grandson in Maine and my Mother in Newport, Charter.net to keep in contact with my E Mail, the internet for searches and info, and GPS for trips.  That's all I need for now.  If I need more, I'll get more.

But in all honesty....I've used this smartphone less then I used my old fashioned flip phone....and I love that.....LOLOL.....
