2015 Monthly Contest ~ Your Art
« on: January 02, 2014, 07:40:09 PM »
Welcome to the 2015 "YOUR ART"  contest.

This Contest Starts (January 1st,  2015)

There will be
ONE Monthly winner that will receive a $25 Gift Voucher from RENDEROSITY.

The rules are as follows:
This contest is exactly as stated....YOUR ART.... Your task is to create what you are most comfortable creating be it scenes, Fractals, Pinups, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Etc.....

TASTEFUL NUDITY IS ALLOWED BUT THE CREATIONS WILL NOT BE USED ON OUR CALENDARS OR CAFE PRESS ITEMS.

Transparent clothing is also acceptable and may be used on our promotional products.

How we pick the winners....Your Creativity is the key.  Because we have artist with different levels of skills we do not pick any creation based on the technical attributes of the creation.  We will be looking for eye catching art that we think will help us sell products.

Enjoy and most of all Good Luck!

And now for some basic guidelines and comments:

We will be using the art in this Contest on various items in Cafe Press and on our Calendars at LuLu.  An Announcement will be made when the Cafe Press store will open its doors in January.  LuLu Calendars for 2015 are on Sale now.

Cafe Press and LuLu are mainstream stores with products for sale to the general public, so as stated above, NO NUDITY but tasteful transparent clothing will be allowed.

Check the read me for all product used in your images, especially those freebies, for commercial use permission. All aspects of the picture must have permission for you the artist to use their product in a commercial project. It is up to you to make certain of this requirement.

By entering you do give The Fantasy Attic/J & L Productions permission to use your image without monetary compensation.

All monies earned from sales support the running of the site, its continual expansion and future projects.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMAGES

Image Shapes and Sizes

Square images are good - preferably something 900 x 900 or larger.

Landscape images (long horizontally) that are some increment of 1200 x 900, 1400 x 1050, etc. are good.

Portrait images (long vertically) that are some increment of 900 x 1200, 1050 x 1400, etc. are good.

Why, you may ask? Because this makes it easier to size the images for the products that are available and will alleviate some cropping that may need to be done to get the image to fit.

Be aware that some cropping will occur, but I'd prefer to minimize it to maintain the integrity of your images.

Rendering, Painting, Fractals, Photography Resolutions

For rending: preferably, render your images and do your post-work at 200 dpi or greater. Then, when you save it to load it to the gallery, save it to the customary 72 dpi.

For digital paintings, photos, fractals etc.: again do your main work at 200 dpi or greater and save the image to the usual 72 dpi to upload it to the gallery.

Doing the original work at a higher resolution allows the image to be blown up, if need be, and still retain fairly crisp edges. Images rendered and done at 72 dpi that are blown up tend to get 'muddy' looking.

Signatures

Try to keep your signatures away from the very edges of the image. This is because when some items are printed, there is a 'bleed' area like with coaster tiles, where the edges wrap over onto the sides of the tiles. If your signature is too close to the edge, I will redo it so it doesn't 'bleed' over the edges. Also, don't make your signature really big, but big enough to be seen. Very large signatures somewhat detract from the image and that is what we want to present - your lovely image.

If you have any questions on these Image suggestions, please feel free to ask Sidherose and she will answer them as best as she can.

The following list of dimensions are for items that we may or may not create on Cafe Press with your winning images. What we make from your images depends a lot on the orientation and size of the image.

For the Compacts you can double the size that is shown here. For example, a 1000 x 1000 px image is fine.

Clock - 1350 x 1350
Mousepad - 950x800
Journals - 825x1275
Place Mats - 6000 x 4500 *
Square Tile Coasters - 1050 x 1050
Square Cocktail Plate - 800 x 800
Key Hanger - 2020 x 828
Custom iPAD Cases - 2207 x 2835 *
Custom iPAD 2 Cases - 2070 x 2730 *
Rectangular Key Chains - 370 x 500
Square Compact Mirrors - 498 x 498
Round Compact Mirrors - 414 x 414
Tote Bags - 1000 x 1000
Rectangular Tote Bags - 1400 x 1400

Greeting Cards, Postcards, Posters, Mugs, etc. should be traditional Landscape or Portrait sizes, which are as follows:
Landscape (long widthwise): 1200 x 900; 1400 x 1050; 1600 x 1200
Portrait (long heightwise): 900 x 1200; 1050 x 1400; 1200 x 1600

Re: Items marked with a *:

If you win this contest and you specifically want your image to be one of these items you probably wouldn't be able to load it in the Gallery. In that case, please contact me by PM here and have a full-sized version at 200 dpi available for me to use. You can attach it to your PM.

Thanks!

The good thing is you can pick and choose which ones you would like to take part in.....  We have some folks that just enter the Monthly contests and others that do all.  And some that just do the Pinups and your art.

Variety is the key and we want to keep you entertained :tearlaugh:
