Wont play for me it doesn't like the fact that I have an ad blocker in place.

Pretty sad that a site tells one to turn off the very thing that prevents annoying crap just to watch a vid.

Tis funny to, that they don't like my 'no script' add-on either, always whining about the fact that I don't have Java turned on :tearlaugh:

Mankind has always existed under extremely dangerous conditions. From the dangers beneath him, to the dangers from above. He is even a danger to himself...LOL yet they are just now starting to worry about them? Sounds like the story of "Chicken Little" all over again.

That is the rub of it meteors, debris and so forth has been falling for centuries and there is not any more activity going on now then at any other time in the past few centuries, it is just the advent of the internet enabling instant communications that make it seem like there is an increase.
Does it mean something spectacular is going to happen this year why is this year any different then any one year previously, there are many who are reading things into natural occurrences for no logical reason.

There is evidence that a lot more 'stuff' fell on us in the past than it does now but you're right - we are constantly bombarded by small meteors, neutrinos, and other things from space. The universe is a very chaotic place.

I really don't understand the human pre-occupation with always having to have an Armageddon coming, but some hold it is a racial memory embedded within us from an earlier time when something fairly catastrophic DID happen. That 'may' be true. I wouldn't doubt it. My own experiences have indicated such a thing may exist. I guess some people either a) get their 15 minutes of fame with it or b) make money from it these days.

I couldn't have said that any better if I'd tried. You nailed humanity to a T!

Well as I love to read about space and all it's interesting stuff, I was just wondering if anything fell in your area. Yes I know about losts of debris falling for ages, but as the map showed, alot of peeps saw them.  hi5-3:

Well, the most "reliable" sources (NASA, Space.com, and SpaceWeather) aren't saying much of anything regarding this...in fact, mostly nothing. SpaceWeather has at most three of their (I think it's) 16 cameras showing something. Nothing major. All these other websites are questionable at best as to where their information comes from. There's certainly no big news reports.

Some of these sites seem to be claiming that it is the debris from Comet ISON. Well according to NASA, there doesn't seem to be anything left of it except 'fine grained dust' that is so fine when we come to where ISON frizzed out TODAY, January 15, 2014 (as a matter of fact), the most likely thing that will be seen is noctilucent clouds...which are pretty cool. Another site suggested that some of what we're seeing is 'space junk' from all the satellites, etc we've put up in the sky. Most of this burns up in the atmosphere as it's re-entering.

So, to answer your question Amira...who knows? Lol. Unless you're out driving and happen to see one, very few of us will be outside because it's winter here and it's cold. I live in the middle of the US and the supposed sightings are on the coasts.

Thanx for your input. Myself like Nasa info, so was just wondering. Here we have summer and a heatwave. So we also stay mainly indoors.  :thud:

I figured you must be having the heat of the summer down there.

I did see something pretty cool two years ago. I was watching one of the Taurid meteor showers off and on through the evening. I went outside on my patio and the moon was up in the sky. If memory serves, it was a crescent moon because it wasn't real bright. Might have been the dust cloud of the shower too. So I'm looking in the vicinity of the moon and I see a streak and it seems heading right for the moon. But you know it's a little hard to judge angles etc down here with the naked eye. The streak appeared to disappear toward the upper third of the crescent and suddenly "POOF" I see what looked like a big cloud of dust floating out from the Moon. It was about the size of a chickpea from down here but that's pretty big. I think the moonlight (reflected sunlight) must have been illuminating it.

So, there's a true meteor story for ya ;)

Stunning to know. I live on a small holding and luckily far from the city and it's the perfect place to view the stars. No lights to irritate one's eyes.   hi5-3:

I live across the street from a WalMart - bleh...waaaayyyy to many lights!!!!

I envy you ;) I saw the Milky Way once, but we were camping out way up on a mountain in the western part of the state. It was the most spectacular thing I've ever seen in all my life!! And Moon was full too that night. It was so bright out, I couldn't believe it.
