And no on the Meds Fafnir.....especially when ol "snake head" is giving them out.

I do have one collection of books that numbers close to 250 books.  It's a series I started to collect when I got out of the service by Don Pendleton.  "The Executioner" is the name of the series.  Of course after many years he started branching off into areas that were to bizarre even for me so I stopped collecting them about 5 years ago.  But they get read from beginning to end when I'm in a "Mack Bolan" mood.

And then there are my comic books, which I'm suppose to be cataloging, but to many real life issues have popped up...and it doesn't help that every time I pass a comic book store I have to stop in  :thud:

Do I read them?  Of course I do.... :tearlaugh:

There is "Retro/Futuristic SciFi" which should cover just about any sort of science fiction...doesn't it??

I never could get all the way through a King book. I love the movies they make from his books but his writing style is not one of my faves. The movie of "Misery" was awesome. Yes, Dean R. Koontz writes some great stories!

if You think King is bad try Michael Crichton and George R.R. Martin! Horrible to read.

Crichton is a little hard but I like George R.R. Martin. Then again, I've only read some of his stuff - not the Fire and Ice books.

While most of Tolkein's stuff is very readable, I remember struggling to get through "The Silmarillion" as it was quite involved and a bit confusing. But after a point I got used to it and then it was better. Maybe it's because I had read all the other books first.

You just have to understand the author in order to read what they write....and have a little of your mind work like theres...which is why I enjoy both King and Chrichton.

That was awesome Rad! Thanks for the laughs. The parts with Tyrion and Jeoffrey were especially good. Lordy I hate Jeoffrey.

Ummm, I don't really know if I want my mind in the same place as Stephen King's. The one where it's at is bad enough.

Have read most of the authors mentioned by all here.

Currently I would say that my Forgotten Realms authors are on the top of the list. Ed Greenwood, R. A. Salvatore, at the top of them but I will say this much I have one bookcase, happens to be triple stacked that contains nothing but the Forgotten Realms novel. Darkwalker on Moonshae, War of the Spider Queen, SpellFire, and countless other trilogies.

Then let us not forget Terry Brooks and the Shannara universe, another favorite ... Anne McCaffery and the Dragonriders of Pern oh my what a classic and epic series that is, one of those authors that make one collect their entire works, remember Crystal Singer, The Ship who Sang.

Then we have the new set of Dr. Who books that have been released that are fast becoming read one by one.

And for me don't forget my manga, so many series and sets and so little time to read them. Then there is the controversial series that I read in my 20's, The Chronicles of Gor by John Norman.

However the list goes on as to what I like to read, what I have read and what is waiting to be read. I would venture to say that although I sometimes am reading 3 to 4 different books at a time I still have at least 100 + that are next in line to be read. :thud:

Then there is the hard sciences, astronomy, quantum mechanics, orbital mechanics and so forth, then all the archaeological texts on ancient civilizations. Definitely the ancient ones though as in BCE nothing recent. Have some philosophy and well, I meant it when I said printed word on paper.

This coming from someone whose home is decorated with book cases as in no less then ten and I think I need another two just to get back to single stacking in them. Then the scary part of the whole picture is the sheer number of them, last count was 1,200+ but that was last year sometime, which that is not so bad in and of its own self.

What is scary is that this the third time I have hit that mark and beyond.
"But who is stronger, truly, I asked myself, he who continues to wound and bleed himself to please others, or he who refuses any longer to do so?"

"Shanara" and "Dragonriders" are definitely great series. Lol, those were some of the others I couldn't think of. I think my daughter read "Sword of Shanara" three or four times, in spite of the fact she's dyslexic...that's how much she loved it. Her dyslexia merges part of one line with part of the one(s) below it, so I know it was a struggle for her.

Picking only three was indeed difficult.  One of my cherished genres wasn't even there -- horror!

I grew up on Poe, Lovecraft, Derleth, King, Blackwood and the like side by side with Doyle, Lewis, Tolkien and Lee.  Then of course there were Bradbury, Wells and the ranks of the great sci fi writers...

...and all that was just the fiction.  >.<
