Opening OBJ in Blender?
« on: July 27, 2014, 02:26:55 PM »
I read somewhere that you can open an obj file in blender.... does anyone knows how do I do it? I'm trying to import the Daz Skeleton(skull), if that helps. Thanks

 Introduction

OBJ is a widely used defacto-standard in the 3D industry.

The OBJ format is a popular plain text format however it has only basic geometry and material support.

    Mesh: Vertices/Faces/Edges/Normals/UV's
    Separation by Groups/Objects
    Materials/Textures
    Nurbs curves and surfaces.

Note there is no support for mesh vertex-colors, armatures, animation, lamps, camera, empty-objects, parenting or transformations.
Usage
Instructions

Launch from the File → Import/Export menu
Set the options in the user interface (Default options should be okay in most situations)
    Press the "Import/Export" button
    Select the filename to use.

If there is a matching *.MTL for for the OBJ then its materials will be imported too.
Configuration

These options will be presented at export time. The defaults are intended to be good for typical usage.

I don't have any textures made for this yet but here's a visual for Blender obj importing. Tis an easy thing.

I tried it just like you both said(thanks for the images) and I still get a square box instead of the skull....

Boxed skulls don't have the same shelf life as canned...it's sad really... :thud: Maybe the skull isn't really a skull shape at all, but a box with four image sides. Or as Rad said...is it inside the box?!

Boxed skull shelf life versus canned :thud: I so did not see that coming this way at all.

Maybe it's Schroedingers skull. And maybe it's alive or maybe it's dead.

T.I. - did you clear the box from the original scene when blender opens (delete it)? I don't know how big the skull is but maybe it IS inside the box.
