Is it possible?
« on: June 11, 2015, 05:13:58 AM »
All right time for the silly question for the month of June, although we do hope there is an answer.

Just found out to my dismay that I too have no idea what sort of content I have in my content folders.    :rainy:

The paid for stuff is simple but all the prizes, gifts and freebies is another thing as there is no invoice I can copy the info from.   :binoc:

So I have a download folder jammed packed full of goodies all in zip format.

The question is how can I import or copy that information and put it into an Excel spreadsheet?

"But who is stronger, truly, I asked myself, he who continues to wound and bleed himself to please others, or he who refuses any longer to do so?"

Not sure what your asking but during my sorting process I found I don't have to unzip everything I have to see what it is.  All I do is click on the zip file and the contents are shown including the filelisting, license, readmes etc.

Then I click on the Runtime folder and see whats in that also.

And the Zip file remains intact as a zip file.  You can copy and past all info from your view screen into any format you want. or possibly rename your zip (which may or may not be a good thing.)

You can open all notepad files in zip to see and take informations, without open zip pack itself.
But for other formats, always you must open zips i think. Just, after you have always zip pack, and a folder with same name.

I am looking for a way to go into my download folder and copy and paste the names of the zip files within the folder to an Excel spreadsheet.

Having to open each one to get a name or write out the names of the products long hand in the spread sheet is one of those nightmare concepts and I was hoping there was a faster easier way

Not sure as to what your trying to do.  You already have them named in the download folder and you can arrange them as you want.  And put them in folders etc.

Not sure what putting them in a spreadsheet will do for you.

I presume that J put them in a spreadsheet to find better all files in a same folder. Because sometimes not same names for products in the same folder.

I've been experimenting with the zips and so far no easy way to do it.  Can't copy and paste them to Excell in bulk.....  And if you have to do one at a time, why bother.

i haven't this problem, because i use notebooks with several categories. A little like those we have on the forum.
Not alphabetical order, but i find my 'babies' 98% of time.

Not sure what putting them in a spreadsheet will do for you.

All of my purchases are in a spread sheet by store so I can locate product easily to confirm whether I have it or not.

So I want to do the same with all the freebies and gifts or prizes I get to confirm if I have them or not, case in point this morning I got the selected prize for the PnP win and when I went to install it, it is asking if I want to overwrite the existing files .... turns out I had selected it previously ... but with no filing system to tell me this ... :sigh:

Not going to cry about it, but this is why I would like to get all of my freebies, prizes and such into a spread sheet for easy searching and so forth.

Might get a bit complicated, unless I sort them by character, which is another nightmare ... :ummm: :lost:

I'll keep testing it out.  I might have something that works....but we shall see.  Got storms here right now so I'm off the good computer and using the other one.  If it gets fried no big loss :tearlaugh:

Well, I obviously know nothing about macro's :duh: ... I tried the little comment you made yesterday and while I can get it to record the movements.

I am missing something to get it to go to the next file in the folder,  and then repeat the steps to copy the next file name into the spread sheet.

Went and did four in a row and when I ran the macro all it did was insert four lines of the same product name. It did not give me the four different products I had copied.

So what am I missing .... any thoughts

I'll take a peek for you.  Typically it will ask you if you want to loop the macro .....

Didn't see that option listed ... mayhaps there be some other settings that need tweaking ?

Oh we do have 2007 version of Office.

The good thing is they haven't changed how Macros work that much between versions.
