Mary, I TOO felt DAZ was very UN-user friendly at first but, then, I think back to when I started with Poser and I thought THAT was just as bad, LOL.
I switched over to DAZ Studio when Iray came out. It didn't take me long to figure out the basics. Not that I'm a pro mind you but I can get around and make some renders and I learning all the time.

You can do that when you're working - go back to DAZ, buy all the new stuff for the new version and play and probably pick it up. That's what I did with Poser - bought a whole lot of content from DAZ, Rendo, rDNA and other places until I had I don't know how much invested in it. When faced with constant changes in versions of the software and the figure generations and all the new clothes to fit them and all the bells and whistles to make it do what Poser already does, I said screw it. Not doing it. Now it's impossible to do.... So glad I made that decision when I did because otherwise I'd probably not be here at all.

That is to say everyone doesn't have the same latitudes to move in whatever direction they may fancy because they're already loaded up on a considerable expense and investment. Not to mention, I find it morally abhorrent to make people do that all the time in order to force revenue back up with all their little tricks and 'exclusive' file formats that are just made up file extensions like they're special. They don't mean squat anywhere else except in DAZ products. Then it's just crass consumer commercialism, milking you dry every day. People love it though and eat it up like candy.

Don't ask me..... I get :ummm: on all that. But then neither do I understand how the way the economy of this country is run how anyone makes any money that's actually worth anything but air and paper it's printed on. How does 'Trickle Down Economics' work again and Capitalism? Oh, it works for Them but not us, I do speculate, manipulate, calculate...observate. Is that a word?

I wasn't suggesting anyone should go back to DAZ Studio and spend all kinds of money for all the latest and greatest Ray. I was merely stating that in my experience DS seemed no more difficult to learn or was just as difficult to learn as Poser.

Sorry, Mike....

It's possibly my own sense of frustration coming out in all that.

Well, we have said this once before, the one and only time I ever tried to use DAZ it crashed my system completely ... total restart ... twice ... and as it is written the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time .... we tossed that to the rubbish bin and have never tried it since.

I have Poser 10, which was gifted to me by a really great friend. Though I don't know it as well as DAZ Studio, I do want to. It's just that Poser has a cost, even when it's on sale a few times each year, and DAZ Studio is free, and in my opinion, not that hard to learn if one is dedicated to learning it, like me.

The truth be known, neither DAZ Studio, Poser, Blender, or Bryce were my first foray into digital 3D art. I actually cut my teeth on Microsoft Office - PowerPoint! I learned it and several other MSO applications at the same time, and PowerPoint was my favorite out them. I discovered several features that a lot of people (including my computer professor) did not know about. in just three months I was quite proficient with it. I found a way to tweak shapes in 3D and add them together to create my own models. I even invented a way to do textures for my models, all within PowerPoint! And if you think there was not much lighting in the application, there was actually several built in lighting setups that could be used to make my models pop. I actually created a series of presentations that served as my own art program! All that I did by exploring the application thoroughly, looking to see what could be done that the creators of the application probably did not have in mind when they created it! And as I have always done in my art, I was thinking outside the box!
DAZ Studio, Bryce, Poser, Wings 3D, Howler, Blender, PSP, Hexagon, MSO PowerPoint & Word, just a few of the programs I use.

Poser Pro got even better this year.

They have made it easier on content creators by integrating Poser Pro Game Dev into Poser Pro 11.

Now the content creators can create for runtimes and games with only one program!
