Copper Cups for Water
« on: April 08, 2016, 05:09:07 AM »
Found this bit this morning and don't know about the veracity of it but it sounds like it might be further research.

Copper is an essential trace mineral that our body requires for metabolic functioning. It is an antioxidant that plays a role in the normal functioning of muscles and the immune and nervous systems.  Since the human body cannot synthesize copper, we need to obtain it from dietary sources.  Foods such as nuts, legumes, leafy greens and seafood can be great sources of copper. However, they only provide small amounts of copper, leading us to find the balance from other sources.

One way is to drink water stored in a copper vessel. For centuries, yogis have been drinking Tamra jal as part of their daily yoga and meditation practice. Tamra jal is known for its multiple health benefits such as: reducing inflammation, improving digestion and boosting immunity. According to Ayurveda it is believed that Tamra jal helps balance the doshas. Many yogis still carry around pots called "kamandalam" which positively charge water enhancing absorption by the cells.
Scientific studies have shown that copper removes bacteria and impurities from water due to what is called the 'oligodynamic' effect- the antimicrobial properties of certain metals.

Copper helps neutralize toxins, ionize and balance the pH in water making the water fit for consumption. Other benefits include:

    Improved vitality
    Immune boost
    Prevention of  aging
Aids in the production of collagen
Wrinkle reduction and increased skin elasticity
    Increased metabolism
    Enhanced digestion
    Arthritic support
    Strengthening of hair and nails
Support of bone & connective tissue development

In order to make drinking water safe, water treatment plants use basic filtration systems to remove most contaminates. These systems make water safe for drinking but they also destroy water's vital life energy and drastically shift its natural pH. By the time your drinking water has been treated, traveled great distances through water pipes and gets into your glass, it has lost much of its vitality, tasting "dead". As a result, the water we drink is not easily absorbed by our cells, leaving us wanting more. The Tamba™ recharges the vitality of your drinking water. It ionizes, energizes, and balances the pH, making the water "alive" again. This energized water is better absorbed by your cells and therefore enhances hydration.
Vasanti Health provides authentic, high quality copper cups used in traditional Ayurvedic health practices. We sustainably source our products to ensure the greatest purity and highest grade of copper. Independent lab testing confirms our cups to be more than 96 percent pure copper.

Each cup is skillfully designed by artisans in India making them healthful and decorative. Most people prefer to drink their Tamra jal upon waking in the morning. Others incorporate it into their daily yoga and meditation practices. Do what suits you best, just remember to use your Tamba™ every day. Always consult your health care provider before beginning any new health or wellness routines.

Looks to me rather like a piece of esoteric crap - however I might be biased due to the authoritarian tone of one who owns the Truth and thus cannot be wrong.
Anyway, among the rest:
- you cannot synthesize copper, it's an element. The times of the philosopher's stone are over since half a millennium, you know...
- a comparatively small copper intake (> 5-10 mg/day) may cause an array of alarming pathological conditions, some of them lethal.
- upon contact with acetic acid (read: vinegar) copper turns to verdigris, which is mildly poisonous (ever wondered why copper crockery is tin-plated inside?)
- unspecified "scientific studies" can prove just anything (and its opposite), in particular when quoted by worshipers of alternative sciences
- water (H2O) has been researched for centuries by serious scientists but no trace of "vital life energy" was found in it. Plenty of life in polluted water though...
- there is a pretty big gap between Indian tradition and today's science. Today's science can be proved (well, up to a point...)

Sorry for being a little impetuous but I've already seen too many cases where wanton belief has harmed, hurt and even killed. Even children whose only fault was to have been born to the wrong parents.

think I'd agree with Chiron on this one

ingesting any metals as an element is maybe not a good idea

Well, let's not go that far now. We actually need plenty of metals to stay alive: calcium for the bones, sodium and potassium for neural pulse transmission, iron for the red blood cells, even copper for several enzymes and proteins (just a few oversimplified examples). Nor does our body care much whether we ingest them as salts, oxides, pure metals or whatever.

But if a pinch of salt is required to make the soup edible, it doesn't mean that a spoonful makes it better: est modus in rebus, there is a limit in things.
And whenever a piece of "scientific information" contains any word ending in ™ you'll better be veeery skeptical... :winks:

I found this place to be very interesting when it comes to what is what and what is what not.  Confused yet?
