I used to write estimates for insurance companies, After the earthquake in the LA area I was flown in to write estimates on the damage.. One of the bigger pain in the butts were older homes that had are in the plaster. Evidently back in the early 1900's they had actual craftsman that work on what was then high end homes. Of course, those craftsman were  dead and there are no longer very many true craftsmen in the trade. Actually had the same problem with cars. Before there was Bondo craftsman used lead not only for fender benders but to install new body parts. On older classic cars people want them restore to original condition and they want parts installed with lead. Neadless to say not many can even do it back then. Probably only a handful now.

Wow, yeah!   Loving it!   The sculptors tools are whatever works.  :)   Spoon, welding rod, fingers, putty knife, kids face, cats paw, anything that leaves something that looks good.   I used to play with plasti-clay.  Never was much good with it, but it was fun!   :java:
This vid, it gives me ideas.   Using some hardboard for canvas and drywall mud to sculpt with.  Interesting thought!

Supermarket, get some Onion Soup Mix.  Comes in boxes with 2 to 4 packets of the soup mix.  Varieties should include French onion soup mix!  And It's ALL good.  I'm drooling now thinking of Dark Elf's recipe for his French Onion Soup!!!  :D
That onion soup mix?  Mush it in with hamburger, makes delish onion soup burgers!  I sizzle up boneless skinless chicken breasts with half a packet o the soup mix and half an inch of water.  MMmmm GOOD!
