Love crab but hate lobster.  In my younger days I worked on a lobster boat pulling up the pots.....  We all were kids so the boat owner figured he could pay us very little cash...but make up for it by giving us free lobsters....

My mother must have had a cookbook called "1,000 ways to prepare Lobster" because  we ended up with lobster almost every other night...and for lunch....and I believe if she could have found a way....we would have had it for breakfast too.

I worked on the boat all that summer....and never did it again....believe me  :tearlaugh:

Brother Fafnir, I gotta tell ya, if they put Bacon Drippings in a can and sold it, I'd buy some every darn week!   Most any meats and veggies are great by themselves yes, but cooking in a little bacon grease?  DEEEEELICIOUS!  :o)   Spuds!   Taters of every fried variety!  Balony!  Franks!  BEANS!!!  Pintos, Butterbeans, Kidney Beans, Black Beans, RED Beans!  BEANS!   Mmmmmmmm!   But leave the lard out of it, I have to now.  I look at lard and shortning and put on pounds!

Lobster is good if you do it right. There's some seafood I don't like but, most I do like. Anchovies on pizza though is way nasty tasting! I mean how do you get a whole box of salt concentrated into one tiny little fish? And the fish adds a taste to the salt that in the combination, makes me sick to my stomach. There's other edibles(?) like that too; like here in Georgia the official recipe for fudge has so much sugar in it, you'd get diabetes just from picking a piece of it up. Seriously the sugar drowns the taste of the chocolate! And then there are those pecan rolls which is basically a big super-sweetened roll of soft nugat rolled in chopped pecans. And the iced tea is so sweet that you can't taste the tea.

Some things I can't even smell without needing to hurl; like anything with teriyaki sauce! So as much as I like chinese food, I cannot walk into a Chinese restaurant, because in every one I've been too the smell of teriyaki permeates the air! And as far as oriental food is concerned, you will never get me to eat Sushi! I like all my fish poultry and meats cooked thoroughly, with the exception of my beef steaks, which I grill to medium, so the steer doesn't moo when I cut into the steak!

Fafnir, you are a man used to eating, and eating WELL!   I envy you the range of foods you have sampled, as well as the places you have visited.  I admire your cooking skills man!   I love good foods too.  More, I love to eat it, relish and savor the flavors.
Most places you go to and order a 2" thick steak offer it done medium rare with a smile, well done with a deep frown.  I like it med rare because of the flavor, not its texture.   Lobster is a great treat for me.  Up here, seafood is expensive.  Hey steak is expensive too, and this IS cattle country!   I still eat well.  Not as well as you all though, but well.  :o)

@ Fafnir - Cool!   I can't remember ever getting a whole lobster to eat.   I always end up with tails, and usually a nice little steak to go with it.  I like the flavor of lobster.  Turns out that Rock Shrimp tastes like it too. Take some of them raw, peel em, wrap em with a strip of bacon, grill em, OH my GOODness thats great!  Rich strong flavor, yessir, that be some good food there.  You have had some sea animals I haven't.  I've never had sushi or octopus.  Had several kinds of crabs and shrimps.  Love that jumbo shrimp out of the Gulf man.  Bacon and grillin time there too!  Ah it's all great eating.  Dunno yet what I'm gonna have for breakfast.   Might be tacos or something.  Might have to run to WalMart for some special groceries this morning!  Ha!

I guess we all gotta be careful about what we eat.   Especially the quantity!    I have left the right foods in my diet, and kicked out most of the bad ones.  I still love some of the bad stuff, just don't eat it every day.   Ah but I do love to enjoy good flavors!  :)

I only recall one time I had a whole lobster and that was at an Oriental restaurant, as payment for doing some side work while we were there doing work out of town a long long time ago ... Szechuan Lobster it was and that spicy kick it had made it quite tasty  damn now I want to find me a recipe to make that sauce from scratch so we can kick things up a notch around here ....
