I doubt any up-scale restaurants actually 'cook' the steak tartar like the Mongols did.

Only thing maybe better than buffalo steak or even burger is elk tenderloin. Both are absolutely divine if they're cooked right.

@ M_Callahan  -  That was interesting stuff on our most popular fast food entree!    I thought I knew a little about it but seems the only thing I had right was the 'hamburg patty' originated in Germany.  Hamburg and Frankfurt are cities that played a large role in the worlds menu's!   I've been hankering for a good thick big messy Hamburger for a while now.  This just cinched it, I'm going to a hamburger place for a bite tomorrow.   I'm craving the juicy flavors of a fresh hot burger sandwich now!

Would rather have a nice big bowl of Mongolian barbeque and sweet and sour soup........without the steak tartar, myself. Maybe some chicken and pork too. Sadly it would all probably make me ill because of the sodium.

I'm a "salt-aholic" Ray.  When I was about 30, my family doctor told me to simply quit adding salt to food.  There was enough salt in the food we buy, no need to add any.  Now my blood sodium level is LOW, and the doctor suggested I add a little salt to some foods.  Like my fresh tomatoes.  Been doing that but perhaps not enough.  Labs come back, sodium still low.  Hm.

McG, I have a recipe for possibly the best tasting hamburger you ever had. You just need a packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix, 1 egg, and one pound lean ground beef. Mix all that up and make the patties according to your prefered size. The juiciest ones are mashed into patties on the iron skillet (brushed lightly with your choice of cooking oil). Slap a slice of your favorite cheese on the cooked side while the flip side is cooking. Build you burger in your normal way and enjoy!

Even pie ain't that easy!

I have thyroid problems. I know all about salt and sodium and iodized salt, and how much salt is in food. I have to read labels because I'm not supposed to eat any more than 1500-1600 mg of salt a day.

It's not my sodium level I'm concerned over...it's my TSH levels. That's 'thyroid sending hormones' which controls a whole lot of functions in your body - including your sanity, digestion, emotions, hormones, etc. that run a whole lot of stuff. It's the second most important gland in your body under the Pineal Gland which is the Controller. The normal level of TSH is 1-4 on the plus side. Mine was once -24.6 (hyper thyroidism - aka Graves Disease) That's 6-24 times normal. I could out-eat you any day and still loose weight because I was burning up my food energy as fast as I could shove it in my mouth. I know all about salt - trust me.

I know right!  I'm years ahead of you with the onion soup burgers.  One of my cousins had several of the family over so she could show off her new discovery.  Back when we were teenagers!   Wow, yeah they are really great.   I keep a couple boxes of Onion Soup mix in the cupboard along with my Taco mixes.  ha!  Juicy and tasty.  :)
