Holy Cow!!!!!!
« on: September 03, 2016, 04:41:52 PM »
This morning at 7:00 we were awoken with the house shaking.

Seems we had a small earthquake (3.5) there were several parts of town that felt it more, they actually had things fly off the wall and shelves, near the hospital on 12th avenue.

Ours felt like a herd or two of squirrels jumped all at once onto the roof...and the pictures swayed and my wind chime that lives in the house was chiming away.

Usually when it hits from Texas or OK (like this one from Pawnee, OK) we just feel the ground sway and nothing else...like when you are walking and lose your balance a little.
Fear not,
You are never alone,
I am there to comfort and guide you...
Always.

Yes it was a 5.6 earthquake; friends in South part felt it too. It was felt in several states. I believe even in Nebraska and Texas.
With risks of earthquake for more because of replicas :hypno:

We have a two story house and it was a lot of fun upstairs.  On the ground floor, the grandfather chimes started reporting.  you could visibly see the ceiling fans swaying.  The open patio door moved back and forth.  We are about 60 miles north of the epicenter of this 5.6 magnitude quake.  It is the largest ever recorded in KS, and tied for first in Oklahoma where it actually occurred.  The most unique thing about this quake was its duration.  It lasted continuously for almost 20 seconds.

Been there! LOL!

Actually I think it was centralized some where in Oklahoma possibly do to all the fracking and such that is going on there.

We had several last year in Texas where I live. I think the largest was around a 5.

This one was widely felt in several different states because it was a shallow epicenter quake and generated large S (transitional) and P (longitudinal) waves on the surface. I hope nothing got broken in your house and you were not tossed out of your bed!

We were outside in the garden when ours struck and it really made you feel like you were about to throw up.

LOL!

Then again on the more FA tangent .......... call Kevin Bacon? Them grabboids are back!  :dispute:

Something was said that it was due to underground water disposal (something like that) which they have been stopping since seismologists told them that is why so many quakes there. They can not stop it all at once either cause they were told that would cause an earthquake too.

Kansas was told the same thing so they started stopping that stuff a lot sooner which is why we don't get as many nor as hard as this one.

Hardly feltit here in the house just swaying pics and windchime, nothing broken and dogs looking around like "what the heck and I idn't dooooo it"

Yup graboids for sure...LOL Or them spiders from the other movies.

Yup. And we just keep drilling and releasing pressure from the ground. The earthquakes will continue to increase as time goes on.
Glad you're okay Mary.

Lol...you mean the worm things? Gah! "Tremors." Right?

Goodness! That was a widespread quake.

You know it's funny, I was just talking to someone about that here in Denver this morning. He was born here too but he's young. I told him about when I was in High School which was back in the 60's - right? We started having earthquakes here and we hadn't had any before or since. You know why? Because Rocky Mountain Arsenal was pumping their waste fluids in to the ground up there. The fluids were lubricating the fault line. They're up nearer to the foothills between Denver and Boulder.

Some young geologist figured out that's what was causing the quakes and went on the news with his charts and dates, etc. and that got their attention. 9 News which was like thee big tv station here - CBS.

So, they have known injecting fluids into the ground like they do so often everywhere now since the 1960's that doing that will cause earthquakes. Yet, they keep getting permission to do it.

Don't you love it?

Not only that...that fluid contained radioactive heavy metals, and fluids from making fuel rods for reactors, and munitions. Bombs - the atomic sort.

The irradiated our groundwater aquifer with that stunt.

ought to put them in a big cage  and  let them have only that  water  to drink  mayhap  they  would  become  glow in the  dark  people and they could be put on display  as a  warning  to others

I musta been dead to the world this morning - didn't feel a thing in KC. I saw where it was felt in Missouri and Kansas. Maybe I'm just so unstable I didn't notice it!   :tearlaugh:
If all is not lost, why can't I find it??  :thud:

I live in the Texas panhandle, North part, on the caprock.  Every once in a while we have the ground just move a bit.  Almost like a small swell went through.  Like Dark Angel said, it's kinda like when you lose your balance just a bit, and sway a little.  Nothing big enough to rattle dishes or stuff on the wall.  But ya feel it cause your whole body moved some.  And the desk, house, yard, neighborhood, town did it at the same time.  Makes ya realize that when there IS a major earthquake, there ain't poop you can do but ride it out!   Maybe the special effects in San Andreas got it right.  It showed Los Angeles in the distance ripple, like swells in the ocean.
I am glad everyone is OK!   I felt some-THING happen here.  And I agree with the seismologists and geologists, its the fracking that's wreaking havoc on us around the US! :OMFG:
