Question for you all
« on: September 15, 2016, 08:34:43 PM »
does anyone else have trouble when using spellcheck?

I find that FF on my mac and Chrome on the pc have forgotten how to spell check anymore. I click it and nothing happens but FF on the pc does have its little popup window for checking.

No problems here on the tower ... XP Pro 64 bit

I use Firefox

I don't have issues when at work using either Firefox or Chrome and there we use Win 7 Pro 64 bit

We do not allow the new one on the web which has Win10 pro 64 bit on it, but as mentioned I do not use this to browse the web

I'm using Yahoo on Chrome, and spell check is working for me just fine! I do happen to be pretty well educated when it comes to the English language though. I speel check myself as well as use spell check to see if what i know jives with the system. If I know a word is actually spelled right when I type it, and I get that red squiggly line under it, I add it to the dictionary. That's how I have worked for years.

Chrome allows you to add words to this spell-checker here?

yup thought it might be mac/FF and Chrome/pc related.

I am going to reboot the mac to see if it starts behaving again.

there is a browser called Yahoo??? I know there is the yahooo site that Google took over like youtube...LOL

I am using just straight Chrome and only when I have to,  just minor things  about it that I wish were different.

I just tried Safari on the Mac an it too is not working for the spell check button. So I know the mac is funked up...LOL

OK, I think, after reading the article...I say spell check button --- here on forum, I have no idea how to spell check for anything else, do you think it is related?

I shall go check out the link now.

It does so only for my own use, as it is what I would call user centered. It likely stores the info on my PCs, and recalls them when I use the word again. I have at least three suites of office type software, and they all include spell check. I suspect that it is connected to my online use.

If Yahoo was bought out by Google, why does my Yahoo acount tell me that Google is a potentially harmful sign in site? That would seem to me to be counterproductive! I don't know that Yahoo is a browser or not, but I can search for things on the internet from the Yahoo homepage. Is that not the definition of a browser?

It's Verizon that bought Yahoo. Not Google. So it says when I did a search just now.

Agent, if you're using Windows, it does have an automatic spell-check option. You can turn it off or on, either one. If you have it on, it corrects everything you type. Since I am often writing the names of things from other times and countries, I have it turned off.

Windows Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome are your on-line browsers.

Windows uses IE internally to browse your files. When you open a folder, you're using your Windows browser. But when you're on line, *you're* using the Chrome browser. If you're using a MAC, then I don't remember what all they're called - there was Opera, Snow-Leopard and some other ones. I'm sure Mary knows.

Yahoo is a site, not a browser. You use IE, FF, or Chrome to browse on Yahoo and here and DAZ, etc.

I sometimes want to use bad spelling to add flavor to my comments or my writing. I can configure the spell checkers to still work, but give me the option of using the suggested spelling or not. That is how I have all of them set on both of my machines. I have noticed one thing though; Notepad does not seem to have or use spell check. At least I have not yet found a feature that I can turn on to do spell check for that utility.

Notepad is your most basic word program. It's a 'text editor' for.txt files. It has no formatting and no spell check.

If you want formatting and spellcheck, use Word Pad, which saves in .rtf format (rich text format). However, you can save your text you type in Word Pad as a .txt format, and lose all your formatting.

Several of my characters have either Scot, Spanish, Native or other accents, so when I type one of them talking I get all sorts of 'bad spelling' - but it's not really 'bad' it's just not proper English. That's all. Then there's all the mythological beings I write about with weird names that aren't in your usual spell-checks and it always wants to change them.
