The dinner I was cooking for my family was going to be a surprise but the fire trucks ruined it.

Am I in hell .... ?

I am not scared of hell.

Hell, is just heaven for bad people.

I couldn't agree more! :winks:
The company of all those holier-than-thou goody-goodies would make the rest of the eternity totally unbearable for me,
whilst down there we'd be likely to meet with so many interesting people, maybe even more than here in the Attic  :yippee:

Mark Twain wrote "Go to Heaven for the climate, to Hell for the company",

although it is controversial that he was the first to say so - all in all Heaven doesn't seem to be that popular, perhaps they need a better tourist agency...

"In this broad earth of ours,
Amid the measureless grossness and the slag,
Enclosed and safe within its central heart,
Nestles the seed perfection."

Just lingering a while on the ways and goals of education.
About its goals,

"We are born wolves and education aims at turning us into lambs. It’s a good thing, particularly appreciated by those who manage to stay wolves"

and about its ways,

"We have come to realize that for most men the right to learn is curtailed by the obligation to attend school" (Ivan Illich)
"I can resist everything but temptation" (Oscar Wilde)

“It is very difficult also to sacrifice one's suffering. A man will renounce any pleasures you like but he will not give up his suffering.”
  -- G.I. Gurdjieff

and on education (perhaps)

“Knowledge can be acquired by a suitable and complete study, no matter what the starting point is. Only one must know how to 'learn.' What is nearest to us is man; and you are the nearest of all men to yourself. Begin with the study of yourself; remember the saying 'Know thyself.”
 -- G.I. Gurdjieff

I think Freeman Dyson agrees with Chiron:

“We must be careful not to discourage our twelve-year-olds by making them waste the best years of their lives preparing for examinations.”

and a little more indirectly:

“The public has a distorted view of science because children are taught in school that science is a collection of firmly established truths. In fact, science is not a collection of truths. It is a continuing exploration of mysteries.”

To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all.

It is good to be among people who understand that life is more complex than darkness and light.

- Lord Parise

Still it is the journey of life of life that matters, and not the goal.

There will be roads that should not be followed; there will be armies that should not be attacked

If their encampment seems open to attack, then it is a trap.
