"No legacy is so rich as honesty."

- William Shakespeare (1564-1616)
"But who is stronger, truly, I asked myself, he who continues to wound and bleed himself to please others, or he who refuses any longer to do so?"

A theological perplexity:

"If really God made man in His likeness, either He’s not so great as a portraitist, or He’s not so great as a God"

and a sadly realistic thought:

"Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a little like expecting the bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian" (Dennis Wholey)
"I can resist everything but temptation" (Oscar Wilde)

Or...our definition of God is highly distorted to accommodate our inability to perceive one being as composed of ALL states of being.

I'd be sort of wary of limiting the unfathomable by calling it a being...
Nor would I dare shape its picture in my likeness: infinite as its sense of humour can be, I cannot rule out the possibility that it might get slightly annoyed and spray some bug killer on me :tearlaugh:

It was a 'matter of speaking' to use the word 'being'. I could just as well have used 'non-being' in my view of things but that wouldn't have made sense in the West. That being that everything that exists is some likeness of That. Otherwise, would it exist at all? We are only one planet in the cosmos that has life on it. Why should we be so arrogant as to think That pays much attention to us at all?

For no reason at all, clearly. Also considering that the cosmos we are able to perceive and imagine could be just an infinitely tiny slice of the whole. For one thing, who says that the universe has only the three measly dimensions we are limited to?

But I'm afraid that the day we'll learn to acknowledge our limits (really, not just rhetorically) is still far below the horizon...

Exactly on all counts  'Espacially' the dimensional part. We have no way of knowing what's beyond our bubble unless it collides with ours. And then...would we really want it to? What lives next door quantumly speaking might not be overly friendly or nice.
