According to the rules of the challenge and to the reminders, there are actually 4 entries that are not qualified. :OMFG:
Am I right ?

 At least for 3 of them. The fourth can enter in rules if... It's the reason of reminders.

Of course, I'll check all entries a last time at the end of month, to see if necessary changes were done or not.

Yes, I think a change in title or description on the one would likely improve the situation to fit the rules.

My coworker showed up with a coconut one morning. once we figured out how to cut it half, someone said "well now what are we going to do with it?" we looked at one another and instantly went cantering through the museum. In our defense, we didn't know there were visitors until after we went past them shouting "good morning, peasants!"

on a more frustrating note, i had a hilarious and awesome idea for the contest, which quickly turned into a picture that is leaps and bounds beyond my abilities to accomplish. there are now so many people, and items, that i can't select anything and no one's clothes want to fit and i can't get the colors to change on anything... i made an easter picture for renderosity's contest which took far less time and came out pretty good, but i don't think the arthurian romance is going to happen and i'm very sad about it. maybe i'll try to come up with something for the other one, if i can complete something in the short time that's left.

Have You tried layered renders and stitching them in a paint program so to ease the strain on your computer?

Little capacities of computers for renders are a pain often. I learnt to pass these difficulties with several renders.
For example this scene: http://thefantasiesattic.net/attic/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=30419
I made 3 renders, after I have cutted the scene in the same number.
Like I kept as many as possible same clothes and morphs for guys, that disminish what is asked to computer performances. So you keep your lights and your environment in each render then:
- in the first render I kept 4 guys of the laft (at the door, the background table, the first at left)
- then the guy behing the waitress, herself and the 3 last at the foreground table.
- and the duo at the bar, with the guy "touching" almost the waitress of bar on the foreground.

Then a way in Photoshop to remove what is necessary on each part of scene.

By the past, I made the same way with a scene of at least 10 people, except it was a 32 bit and I needed to 5 cut-renders.

*****
And to place people, don't hesitate to exit for example an object like "reference" (I used tables for the scene here). Before to merge all together in an unique scene (to see if all is ok with each interraction), don't forget to remove the object in the temporary scene.

**********
I know the way seems hard, like you have your "reference scene" (with environment) then 2, 3 or more other scenes to merge with.
Then from your "reference scene" with all merged, you have again to cut when your are happy to do your renders.

I don't know the power of your computer. I know mine can't do more than 4 (once 5) characters in the same time.

thanks radkres and aelin for the advice. it's nice to know i'm not the only one. i will have to learn some more skills for photo editing (as if i have time for that) but it sounds like it will be necessary for complicated art, and i didn't know that. i can't afford photoshop unless i can convince the museum to buy it for work so i'm not familiar with any recent versions of it.

aelin, are you saying that it is easier for the computer to work if i used the same figure multiple times? like to make all the guys M3 instead of each person a different source figure? i thought the opposite - that it would confuse the computer to have multiple copies in the same scene. if that is the case i have probably been going about all this the wrong way. i thought i was smarter than the computer (silly me!).

probably the best solution is that i need to learn not to get in over my head!

In fact it's what I read once. Like geometries are the same, this allows computer to do less calcul, so to use less memory for its render.
You can use the basic guy for people showing only their backs for example.
I know we love to do different characters, even not significative ones, like we are different to each other in real life.

Do you have another program with layers? Like PSP? Or Gimp? This last is free.
I'm not sure PhotoFiltre with layer is again free. I can check, it was with this last one I worked by the past.
Now I work with an old version of Photoshop, the CS2.

But at the end, doing is the best thing to learn, like all tutorials don't show all possibilities and issues we can meet. Our imagination can bring us toward new steeples!

No, it doesn't confuse the computer if you have multiple copies of Michael in your scene. What Poser does (don't know about DAZ) is it numbers them like M4, M4_1, M4_2, M4_3, and then their attire, hair etc is parented to THAT particular version of Michael - or Vicky for that matter. It's even like that with Poser figures.

There is GIMP software that works like Photoshop and is free. Sorry I don't have the link to it, but if I recall correctly make sure you ONLY install GIMP and NOT all the other uh 'crap' software that may come with it. Just search for 'GIMP' and you'll find the link for it at GIMP.com. Don't get it from anywhere else.

I think it depends much more on the power of the PC than the software used.
With DS, I also managed to put 5 characters (3 V4 and 2 M4) in a single scene.

I'm able now too to have 5 people in the same scene... if I have similar shapes and clothes. Otherwise, it's cutted scenes.

For Photofiltre 7 you have English version by here. It's the good site. For Gimp, I check again.

EDIT:
GIMP seems on GIMP.org
