Thanks! He (or she) is a very sweet and good-natured little thing. Can throw a temper tantrum of epic proportions (soooo hard not to roll on the floor laughing when it happens) when he doesn't get his way, but never bites and loves to cuddle. We are lucky to find him...

Looking pretty good for having been in bad shape previously! Very pretty bird!

Does 'Benjie' seem to take more to you or to your wife, Howy? I ask because a lot of the time, they will gravitate toward the opposite human gender of what they are. Not always but often...unless the bird had a bad experience with a man or men, or a woman or women. Then that colors their attitude differently.

I also enjoy those a lot.  B&W with just a tiny hint of color .....

I'm thinking we had done this before way back when....but since it was way back when....let's bring it back again....

Man oh man...I'm on a roll...that actually DID rhyme.

Not always but often...unless the bird had a bad experience with a man or men, or a woman or women. Then that colors their attitude differently.

My wife does all of the maintenance in his room, because Benjie will NOT allow me to clean anything. He throws a total fit if I try to clean up poos or sweep (charging, attacking the broom, etc).  I have to be very sneaky...
He snuggles with my wife and lets her pet him on his perch and cage, but in a very low-key way (but very "baby-like - head down and pretty much only when she is sitting on the floor. He does not seem to want to perch on her arm or shoulder.
So, I would have to say that he prefers men. Not just me, but my wife's brother as well. When a man comes in to visit, lots of full crest and puffed feather displays, dancing from side-to-side and "pickmeuppickmeuppickmeupNOW!!!!" cues. He likes to get up on my shoulder and bury his little head below my ear, or stretch down and rest his head under my neck for grooches behind the crest. He does not do that with Amy. He does the same with her brother. Sitting in a chair on on the floor, standing doesn't matter.
We have been debating if it is a) height, b) larger arms/perches, or just a gender preference. Which is funny, because he was described as a "ladies man" by his foster home (though they said that they only had him for a week)...

Male cockatoos and cockatiels *will* sit on eggs, fyi.

I had read that... (been reading voraciously since we got him) - but it does seem very intense... He has since added a second "egg" - another small ball he pulled off of another toy. To keep the first one company? I read that they usually have 2-3 eggs, so maybe one just wasn't enough...
He has taken to spending until around 2 in the afternoon obsessively sitting on his eggs, but then from 2-ish to bedtime, he is social as usual. He used to (for the first couple of weeks) like to play by himself in the mornings and be social later in the day (which works out well). Now he does not play with his toys much in the morning.
What I read said that it is around 28 days that they incubate the eggs, so what happens then (in about 2 weeks)? Will instinct tell him it is over and unsuccessful and it is time to move on? Will he be depressed? These are the things that keep us up at night now...
