"Et toi aussi."

Problem with your "you" in English. It's in the same time for "tu" and "toi".

We have also our own traps in language, but I can't remember at this hour :psycho:

We have this problem here I think because they always teach in the polite sense, instead of the familiar sense. So then this is what you know best - the polite. But no one speaks like that in normal life unless it is formal.

Ok so let me guess these...
Bonsoir TI.
J'espère que la journée se passe bien.

I hope that your journey has been (or is) a good one?

Cas désespéré, peut-être. Cas désespérant pour une certaine infirmière, sûrement. :tearlaugh:

this one, hmm.... you're desperate for a certain nurse for sure?  Don't know what peut-etre means(yet).

et toi aussi....and you(something)?

@Margy: Wouldn't it be "Guten Abend meinen Freunden?" Just wondering if I'm remembering right or wrong.

waiting for Margy to correct us, lol :(ROFLMAO:

It's correct, except for journey.
Journey = voyage.
It's not the idea here.
The good one is Journée = jour = day.

You can translate it like this.

I hope your day is a good one.

I hope your day is going well.

I'm not convinced TL is desperate for our nurse. :tearlaugh:

Peut-être = maybe or perhaps.

The first part of the text can be translated like this.

Cas désespéré, peut-être. = Desperate case, maybe.

The translation of the second part is good, except for desperate.

Desperate = désespéré. Not the right one here.
Désespérant = despairing.

Which gives.

Despairing case for a certain nurse, for sure.

Finally, the whole translation is :

Desperate case, maybe. Despairing case for a certain nurse, for sure.

This style of sentence is more often used in the spoken language.

et toi aussi....and you(something)?

Aussi = also or too. Here, I think too is more appropriate.

Et toi aussi ? = And you too ?

:yes: they taught us the formal form in High School for English.
For French, we learnt the "midway" of forms, the usual talk. Now formal is just for job, administration or if you are in the "high society".

It's correct, except for journey.
Journey = voyage.
It's not the idea here.
The good one is Journée = jour = day.

Yeah I remember the first time we saw "journey" in English. A false friend and we knew that. But even knowing "day" from a long time, I made the mistake :psycho:

Bonne nuit TI, and bonjour!

@Margy: Wouldn't it be "Guten Abend meinen Freunden?" Just wondering if I'm remembering right or wrong.

OK, since so far no one has answered and I'm right back from Hell (of course not entirely myself yet - if ever), let's play the obnoxious school teacher: sorry Sidherose, I'm afraid it's a memory glitch: the official form seems to be actually "guten Abend meine Freunde" - that much on most books.
Of course the real, colloquial expression sounds slightly different, something like "hallo alle, gibt's noch 'was Bier?" (roughly translated "hi everybody, any beer left?")
 :(ROFLMAO:
Then, for the sake of completeness, let me propose for good night "buonanotte", "lahko noč", "god nat" and "hyvää yötä" - yes, I'm a sadist :grin:

But unfortunately just a poor broken sadist the divine Marquise would repudiate without a second thought, one who in the next ten seconds is going to collapse on the first surface horizontal enough and try to sleep off several years of traumatic experiences concentrated in little more than a week.
Mmmh... gnighhht everybody...

That truly sounded exquisitely horrible! Sleep well!

Ah...it's that der, die, das thing isn't it. Got my der and my die mixed up...or something. Really, it's not a matter of age. I couldn't always keep them straight when I was in high school. :thud:
