We are learning this slowly

. . . And I am supposed to take this seriously .....

 :sigh: :thud:

That's the most difficult part of so many official manuals and textbooks: once you scratch off a tiny layer of formal language you ought to be prepared to run into a substantial layer of stupidity covering a massive core of thick ignorance.
Then you have to make up your mind: either you roll up your sleeves and re-write it from scratch, or you pretend to take it seriously and get ready to wink at the first smart pupil you catch smirking :winks:

That ought to be fun since I am the pupil this time ... :thud:

Let us see if anyone else is clever enough to catch the first error in the manual

Then this is your opportunity to take overdue revenge... I'm sure you'll enjoy it indecently
And if the teacher is a moron keep digging deeper and deeper until you see him fumbling in his pocket for a revolver, then stop - hard to say if he's going to shoot himself or you :tearlaugh:

I know ..... it is going to be ever so enjoyable :heeheehee:

but if his hands go in his pocket, and yes I have a man for an instructor, we will stop

I don't work with TV technically, I do public safety radio, yes I use cable that is rated in the same fashion to whit: CATVP, CATVR, CATVG and so forth, but I use 50 ohm coax not the 75 ohm coax that television uses.

And we are off and running day one of the R56 boot camp for lack of a better choice of terms.

Got ye ole instructor on the CATV definition, once I said what it was though he did remember that was the correct definition, and then mentioned that it has not been corrected still as it was incorrect in the last two printings of the manual.

Well, well how quaint.

New point of "pay attention"

UL (Underwriters Laboratory) yep ye ole national testing lab for all things electrical and more is obviously mentioned multiple times in the book.

So the question is this when they release their results is it

UL approved or UL listed

Yes there is a difference and it does indeed make a difference

Scary part the manual uses the wrong term.

 :thud:

Did actually learn something new in regard to site grounding, I have heard the term "ufer" ground tossed about by ye ole engineer at the shop more then once and not once has he ever explained the details of what it is, turns out it is named after the guy who came up with the idea.

Why he couldn't say so and then describe it accurately is beyond me though, the big deal with that type of ground is it goes in at the time of pouring the slab, and it is used in addition to a conventional ground electrode system.

Have noticed and the instructor did mention this tidbit, they meaning Motorola do like the number "2" as in 2" of separation between types of cable and groups, a #2 AWG for a ground bus, recommended 2 ground rods at 2 times the length apart from each other, 2 hole ground lugs for attachment and the list goes on

Wonder what tomorrow is going to bring :tearlaugh:

He did "maybe" like the fact that I had my 2014 codebook with me and then asked why, told him. Then asked why don't you have the 2017, mainly because Fl has not adopted it.
Florida is still on the 2011, now in Jan. 2018 they will finally adopted the 2014 but it is going to be a bit longer for anything beyond.

The cool part was (from my point of view) was looking up topics we were discussing in our training session and finding the relevant code article in the NEC.

Which since the "ufer" ground was unknown to me I tried to find it in the NEC and yep it is in there  (250.52)(A)(3)  and the details for it were worded the same way there as in the training material.

The interesting part though it to can not be used as the only electrode for grounding, in a residential or commercial application, it must be used in conjunction with other electrodes in the grounding system.

Same thing holds true at an RF site.

Found another code article that I can work in my class next semester in regards to separation of transmission lines and power lines going into a structure so look out students.

So two new or more questions depending on how I word it I can add to the code quiz pool. :heeheehee:

So which is right?

UL approved

or

UL listed

Having been an electrician for a couple three or four days I know which it is, so it was amusing to see that it is incorrect in the manual.

Oh forgot the funniest bit of the whole day.

I am the only "Motorola" employee, the rest all work for either other communication companies or are government agencies and/or military,

And what do we get in this mornings email

Your password will expire in 10 days :sigh:

It is such a pain, every 30 days I have to do this, yes I understand the reasons for and such, but damn it is so annoying, as I have to get three devices to all synch up after I change it, using the damn two step confirmation rubbish on top of that and then go to all the company links and get them to update password info as well for all of them.

:rat-atat:
