It just so happens that there are a few folks in here that love doing props and I'm sure they will love lending a hand.....

I use Hexagon2.5 and uv map right inside it as I finish each prop part.  That way if I make copies of a prop piece they are uv mapped as well.  If you make 1 chair leg, uv map then make 3 more copies they are all uv mapped.

Unfortunately, Hexagon is not much of a uv mapper.  I have been looking at UU3D but I'd love to have UVlayout or Headus.  Hair uv mapping only takes a few clicks and you're done.....$60 vs $300....sigh.

It's all about practice.  I am getting better all the time.  Someday other people may actually be able to make textures for my products if I keep getting better at uv mapping.  I cringe when I think about my very first prop uvs. I didn't know what a checker pattern was then :p

I use Silo for modeling and uvmapping, I use Poser Pro 2014 for rigging and creating materials, and finalize everything in Photoshop CS6 Extended. I am willing to lend a hand as much as I can as well as point you to the best modeling tutorials for the cheapest cost wise. Just send me a pm or an email and we shall have a meeting of the minds :)

making jewelry props is fun, easy, and free. just download wings 3d its free and it has it's own uv mapping. plus the sight is loaded with tutorials telling u how to use the program. much of the artwork that u can see on my website used props that i made. http://artcomp1.tripod.com
