The warning claxons sounded. All of the hanger staff had long left but the hanger AI always made sure that it was empty.
After the prescribed eight minutes for the all-clear, the AI sealed the doors. With a hiss, all of the atmosphere in the hanger was evacuated. The gate's field was turned off.
Both pilots raised their ships, ignited their engines and thundered out of the gate, immediately plummeting planetward.
Eve covered her mouth with her hand to contain the scream.
